How to ask this guy out without embarrassing everyone involved

Hi Reddit !! This is a very last ditch effort cause I'm low on time. But sadly, this was all i could think of for my situation. Reddits never done me wrong before. Im in highschool, 14(F) and a freshman. In my animation class there's a really sweet guy who sits across from me 15(M) Ive been suspicious that he likes me for a few months now, as he often gazes at me or talks to me. He's a major nerd and i know he likes a lot of the same things as me. If he was alone i wouldn't have this problem, my issue however is that he's constantly surrounded by his friends. Specifically one, who is always at his side. I really want to ask him to the dance this Saturday, but i don't want to embarass him or myself. The only contact i have to him outside of in person is via email, but that doesn't seem that thoughtful. I'm also not that scared of rejection. So essentially, how do i ask him out without without embarrassing him?
