Do you like comments?

I'm not an author- just a rather quiet reader. A few months ago, someone said on Twitter that AO3 authors like to see comments on their works. Does this apply to most authors? I started to comments on works that I read after I saw that post. HOWEVER, as I said previously...I'm a quiet reader. Most of the time I sent these on the comments:
"💜💜💜", "(´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)", or "(❁´◡`❁)"
and maybe with thanks for the update/fic, sometimes. I just want to show that I appreciate their existence and work, but I'm not good with words.

As an author, what do you think about those type of comments? Is it preferable if I dont comment or..?
