Steering linkage replacement

Brought my ‘89 first gen in for some new tires and was told my steering linkage is loose and needs replacement. The guy quoted me $2500 which seems a bit steep after some research. Is this too difficult a task to complete on my own/should I take it in somewhere else and see if I get a more reasonable quote? Any advice appreciated
